The heroine is a beautiful, intelligent, mathematical whiz and American. Her mother was daughter to an English Lord but she entered a love match with a rich American merchant. While her mother had passed on, her father was still living and she had a brother and one brother who was killed during the capture and impression just prior to the War of 1812. Daphne worked with her father and brother in their maritime business sailing supplies back and forth to America. They had traveled to England without their father to visit their mother's family and to get to know their cousins. They also wanted to increase shipments and build business.
They met Edward, Duke of Warick about a contract for his business. His man was trying to cheat the Americans by changing figures after they agreed to terms and had only to sign the document. Daphne found the error that morning when she fist was given a copy to read and stormed in. Her brother had read the contract the night before and also slotted the error. Later she found that his man was skimming off over $#100,000 a year (pounds)and brought it to Warick' s attention.
Daphne did not care much for the English who thought they were better than others, especially the nobility. She was still angry about the death of her brother by a cruel English Commander. Edward had a connection to that ship.
There are opportunities to meet others and she and Edward seem attracted to one another. However she did n' t yet know of the Duke 's involvement. She was told by a Duke who kept trying to place her in jeopardy by trying to get her alone and who needed money because of his failure at the gaming tables. He was also in cahoots with the Duke 's former agent for business. This was at a time when many Lord's thought it an insult to work anything but the land. To be a merchant was for a lower society.
You will need to read to see the intrigue, the drama, the romance and the hurt or damaged hearts. Can a feisty American who helps run a shopping business be interested in an English Duke and desert her country or forgive for whatever his involvement in the death of her brother might be? I recommend this read.

The Duke Obsession Entangled Scandalous edition by Frances Fowlkes Romance eBooks Reviews
While not Georgette Heyer this was good. I prefer romances where the men are kind and pursue stubborn women instead of cruel.
If you enjoy your romances sweet with a side of sass, check out this Entangled release. The premise is unusual and I enjoyed the clash of English and American cultures. The hero is adorable and the heroine is spunky. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable read!
Cute book that I really enjoyed. The lighter side of life. I found it comforting and relaxing to read. It had enough intrigue to be interesting. Most readers would like it I did.
I really enjoyed this book. I love strong and sassy heroines and Daphne certainly was one. Her smartness was intriguing and instead of being told she was witty and smart it was shown to us. Her disgust with the English aristocracy was understandable even though sometimes frustrating. It made her blind to what was right in front of her and treated us to some snarky internal thoughts. Some which were justifiable and some which were not. Daphne was a good character that had great strength and obvious flaws that were later overcome. I confess I did not feel as if she was in love with the duke! I knew she really liked him and had strong feelings for him, but even when he declared himself to her, I did not feel as if the depth of the sentiments were returned by her. But I knew there was enough for a HEA that could only flourish.
Our Hero Edward was a pleasant surprise. I was startled by how much I loved him. I normally want my dukes to be arrogant, and entitled yet sexy. He did not present like that at all, not even once. He was charming, pleasant, and a gentleman of honor through and through. It really made me fall in love with him. Even his mother who got under my skin to no end, I wanted her demise in the most painful of ways, he only treated with respect and kindness. It made me only love him more. His sincerity for Daphne was felt and I certainly understood why he fell in love with her.
While the pacing was slow in some sections, and the heat level mild and sweet, I was still unable to put this book down and I read it in one sitting. I recommend this sweet and spicy regency romance to all historical lovers.
What a fun read! Miss Farrington is exactly what you don't expect a woman to be in the early 1800's, sassy and outspoken. And, she's exactly what the Duke of Waverly wants (and what he needs)! The love story, entwined in family and shipping business drama, is wonderful... you can really feel the characters grow with each other. I found myself falling right into the story, not only seeing what the author was describing in the surroundings but feeling what the characters were feeling. I highly recommend this debut novel by Frances Fowlkes!
I liked the hero, the heroine not so much. I feel that $2.99 is too much to pay for this book. It bothered me that Daphne thought she was so much better than Edward and everyone in general. I just do not enjoy characters who think of themselves as faultless for so much of the book. When Daphne isn't willing to listen to Edward, when he has acted as a gentleman the whole time, is just too much more for me
Daphne is the daughter of a shipping owner. She visits England with her brother to visit relatives and improve shipping company income. There she meets Edward, a Duke, who may be interested in investing in the shipping company. For personal reasons she dislikes England and aristocracy. But, there is chemistry between her and Edward. Will they be able to deal with the difference between their backgrounds and pursue an HEA? This is well worth the read. Fowlkes is a new author for me and I look forward to reading more by her.
